Company Social Responsibility Program:

As part of our philosophy, the society as a whole, should benefit by our presence on the Romanian market.

As a consequence we have decided to establish the <> with the main aim of boosting the Barklav's family concept.

With ist motto "Women are the voice of the family at home and in society" and about 500 members, SWAB wants to bring contribution to the wellbeing of all Barklav families and to provide opportunities for the wives of Barklav's seafarers to gather, to discuss and to participate to activities that will improve personality and skills of seaman's wives and children.

Barklav & SWAB - Joint activity Environment protection oriented - 30th July 2010

Barklav Romania cares about the community and environment and promotes the natural resources conservation.  As part of its CSR program about Environmental Protection, this year, on 30 July, our company   and SWAB representatives met “Junior Rangers” Club members in place called 2 May, a small village from the Southern Black Sea coast. They are 20 children from the local school, lucky  participants in the "Junior Rangers" Programme, developed by the National Institute of Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" Constanta (NIMRD), Custodian of the Marine Reservation "2 May  - Vama Veche”, during 2005-2009.

The Marine Reservation covers an area of 5000 hectares along the 7 km of Black Sea southern coastal area between May 2 and the border with Bulgaria and represents part of the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Romania. The Reservation Management Plan seeks to maintain the harmonious interaction of man with nature by protecting the diversity of marine habitats and landscape, promoting the preservation of traditional use by the surrounding sea water, encouraging and strengthening activities, practices and traditional culture of the local population. All these actions are well done through the involvement of the “Junior Rangers”. They are collaborating with the researchers from NIMRD for a better Reservation Management. They are empowered to develop actions for information, awareness, and education of the people and monitoring of the Reservation. For most of them it was the first real exploration of the Marine Protected Area neighbouring and natural environment. Their way of life has changed a lot during this time, often they renounced of their own home comfort to attend many expeditions in the area. For those experienced (participants in various environmental education programs initiated by non-governmental organizations from Constanta) this was an opportunity to practice skills and to complete knowledge about nature.

This year, due to 30 anniversary of the Marine Reservation "2 May - Vama Veche”, Barklav Romania sponsored the “Junior Rangers” Club with t-shirts and caps, useful equipment during their summer activities on the beach establishing a collaboration for the future. Since people protect what they love and act upon what they understand we hope that  our action is only the start of a good practice and collaboration.
